A little bacon history

“Bringing home the bacon” is not what you thought it was.  In 12th century England a church in Dunmow, England promised a flitch (side) of bacon to any married man who could swear before the congregation that he had not quarried with his wife for a year and a day.  If proven to be so he was awarded the bacon.   “A husband who could bring home the bacon was held in high esteem by the community for his forbearance, self control and patience.”  Author: Guise Bule

One of the tastiest treats to make with bacon is:

DATES WRAPPED IN BACON

Set oven to 400 degrees

Cut bacon strips in half

Wrap a date with the bacon and secure with a toothpick

Place on a wire rack  and bake for 15 – 20 minutes

If they are not crispy enough place under broiler for 3 – 5 more minutes, but keep an eye on them as they sizzle away.
